02 May VNXIETY – DOES IT OWN U OR DO U OWN IT?
“It’s hereditary”. “My mum has it, her mum had it, it just runs in our family”.
“Well maybe it’s time to break tradition, break the family habits and patterns”.
Did you know, it’s not all in our genes. That our DNA is transformable. Studies indicate that 80% of our cellular make up can be changed. In other words, through your mind, actions and words, you have the power to change stuff.
Now just over one year ago, I noticed that when I became anxious, this ‘energy’ that took over my body and effected my mental state was just a sensation. Energy. Energy that was trapped or unexpressed. That was all. So I ditched the word anxiety and started to refer to it as unexpressed energy.
This helped me self inquire and realise what I needed, to relax, express and let go. What was actually effecting me? Then I could align my actions and words with what was truly going on inside.
When I hear people tell me they have anxiety, I laugh inside and say so does every single human being on planet earth. That’s over 7.3 billion people. Fact: Anxiety is a natural sensation. You will feel anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, nervous or another feeling that doesn’t even have a label at some point in your life. Whether it’s a speech at school. An exam. A new job. Moving to a new location. Maybe a friend passes away. A new relationship. Kids.
WHEN YOU ARE FACED WITH THE UNKNOWN, FEARS AND WORRIES ARISE.
That is also natural. But it seems like ‘we’ as human beings don’t want to feel these sensations. Anxiety medication and anti-depressants are a prime example. ” I don’t want to feel like this”. Well guess what. Maybe your body is trying to tell you something. But instead of listening, people would rather keep working a job that makes them miserable, stay in a destructive relationship, study something to be ‘someone’, put others need in front of their own and basically neglect their own self. Where’s the love?
Now this morning I read which herbs can help your anxiety, which medicine and which exercise. What this 8 page article forgot to mention was, to take a good look at yourself and the life you are living. Does your life inspire you? Is natural medicine any better then modern? Both are treating symptoms…both help you continue to the life you already live, which actually caused the anxiety in the first place. Funny isn’t it.
Take a breath.
Think about it for a moment.
A little story: A good friend of mine is one incredibly talented musician. When I first met him, I barely knew he played music, let alone wrote his own songs. Most of the time, this was done in his bedroom. Anxiety would own him out in public (just like many of us), so he would keep it to himself. In his safe zone.
2 years later, I attended one of the open mic nights he had started up and was running monthly. He was first on stage and completely smashed his 3 songs. He was confident, strong and powerful.
When he came off stage, I walked over to have a chat. I said, “bro, what changed, you just smashed that”. He replied with these words that haven’t left me since. “I just learned how to harness my anxiety”.
He had realised this unexpressed energy just needed to be harnessed and re-directed. Naturally that came out through his music.
So here’s the BIG question…
DOES ANXIETY OWN YOU?
OR DO YOU OWN IT?
